Lab Work – Acrylic Fruit Pieces, Markers

With the recent refill of acrylic paint markers, there are a few updates on X to share, acrylic fruit pieces.

First, more time in the lab, lab work is now being processed and posted directly to my x.com account – @sallee_creates. Feel free to follow if you’re interested want. However, I will still provide updates here in the form of multiple studies, collections and series of works to keep everyone up to date.

Recently, I found a few work arounds for the markers, see my update here – Liquitex Liquid Refills. In any case, hope you enjoy the new collection of sketches/under-paintings on fruit.

Secondly, more acrylic fruits and veg will be posted soon as I clean up those under-paintings and post them to x.com/@sallee_creates. For those of you who have previewed some of my work before or if it is your first time, welcome. Same for the noticing, you may have noticed the inclusion of some new paint marker colors – blue, green, yellow. I’ve held off buying markers for awhile with the idea of getting back to brush and paint. Typically, I use only Mars Black, Titanium White, Unbleached Titanium, Neutral Grey 5 and a variety of ink pens. Nothing too crazy or extraordinary, just blue, black and red ball point pen, markers (black, sepia and grey) and number 4H pencils.

More Human Anatomy

Finally, I’d like to point out some older posts on x.com, with the main focus being human anatomy. Such as arms, bones, hearts, and the brain. Similarly, be sure to check those out while you’re there. If not, I’ll post a follow-up with those items included. The same goes for a new focus on superhero anatomy, where I’ll be working on musculature, structure, dynamic motion and some of my favorite comic publishers.

Liquid Acrylic Refills – Back In The Lab

Acrylic Markers

Lab Work – Liquid Acrylic Refills

We are back in business, liquid acrylic refills in hand and have found away around ordering smaller orders, parts, and dealing with shipping issues.

We now have Liquitex Fluid Acrylics on the bench. Honestly, I needed new markers, and found a refill fluid made by Liquitex which has been working well so far. There are no blockers, or blockages from the acrylic paint markers. It is a great alternative to buying or mixing brand paints, where viscosities and fluid flow rates may be off. Additionally, you can refill the markers already purchased and simply replace the tips when needed. I found the tips or tip replacements on Amazon for a relatively small fee. Next, with the extra tips and new fluid acrylics we are back in business utilizing the original paint marker shells or tubes regardless of size.

Vinyl Record Series

I will be shifting some of my lab time over to the vinyl record series next week to account for the markers. Ultimately, now that the paint blocker has been resolved, I can get back to work on the bigger pieces. It’s been a few weeks since I set that project aside to focus on sketches, small quantity marker usage, pencil/pen and under-paintings. I’ve been putting more emphasis on developing ideas rather than immediately diving into the final work or series. Stay tuned for a post about the vinyl work next week or the following week.

Check out the latest updates on the vinyl series, artwork, and lab work in progress over at X, @sallee_creates.

It has been a few weeks since my last web post about artwork or work in progress. I have posted more of those work in progress or lab work on the x timeline. However, I will occasionally recap and share those items here on the website, highlighting new illustrations including medical, human form, animals, landscape, biologics, life energy, and more. This includes sketches, under paintings, illustrations, prep-work, 3D prints, 3D illustrations, 3D lines and more. So, check those out!

In this post, you can check out what’s currently in progress. I have shared several updates on the vinyl series, human forms, hero study, further exploration into the Mondrian Study, under paintings and more.

Keep track of what’s going on, what’s on the bench. You can follow along, have look over my other pieces, completed artwork, studies and mixed-media projects.

Currently, I am focusing my energy on around 40 smaller pieces. These are also shared in the X timeline, @sallee_creates: Mondrian, Marvel Likeness, Human Forms, Energy, Landscapes and more. You can view my previous artwork update on Twitter here.

Finally, stay tuned. In the meantime, feel free to follow my work online @sallee_creates on X.com. Take a look, and follow me if you’d like. Cheers!

Artwork – Mixed Media, Sketches and Artwork

It’s been awhile, let’s see what is going on, see our latest Artwork Updates on X.

I have to admit it’s been months since I shared any artwork or mixed-media projects, or provided any insight into my creative process. While I’ve shared a few marketing ads here and there, I haven’t shared anything on this scale in a while. I thought it might be interesting to share my before sketches,  unfinished work and even pieces that didn’t quite make the cut. So, here’s the idea.

20 Minutes A Day

I dedicate 20 minutes a day to my sketching, painting, mixed-media, and artwork preparation activities for new, in progress or pre-work. Most of my work is done in a few 5.5″ x 8.5″ sketchpads, which I will eventually transfer to canvas board, wood, or another medium. I’m not yet sure how I want to share these pieces moving forward; X, web or the combination of the two. This won’t be a comprehensive listing, but rather a good representation of the sketches and paintings I’m currently working on. Ultimately, I would like to showcase all of my work in some way, but for now, here’s a quick look at my artwork updates.

Next, you can have look over my other pieces, completed artwork, studies and mixed-media or design work projects. In closing, this is just a continuation, more of a beginning on the site. I will continue to keep you all updated on my whereabouts, what I’m working on in terms of art/artwork, as well as things happening in and around the office here or what’s on the bench.

Currently, I am focusing some energy on around 40 smaller pieces. My goal is to continue sketching for at least 20 minutes per day. I am also planning to include more pieces featuring human anatomy, various animals, boats and aircraft. For those computer people from the internet, check out the ASCII Art post… very cool.

Finally, stay tuned. In the meantime, feel free to follow my work online @sallee_creates on X.com. Take a look, and follow me if you’d like. Cheers!

Power Switches

Lab Work – Power Switches

Back At It Again, The Light Switch Series is now underway, in Progress

It’s a start. Switches or power switches has begun, and acrylics are now on canvas. It’s been awhile since I last used a paintbrush on canvas. Lately, I’ve been spending more time on the sketchpad. A year or two ago, I sketched out a few smaller ideas, before moving to stretched canvas around the office. Honestly, I’m not a huge fan of smaller pieces. My preference for canvas size is 24″ (rectangle) and above. So, we are sowing new growth. For more of my work, check out the following links – Movement, Sun Study, and more under the acrylics tag.

It’s a start. This will probably be a 5 to 6 part series on the same subject, in this case, an old light switch. Who knows, I may decide to scale up a number of sketches at some point, once the direction is set and the subject matter gets ironed out. The latest revisions and work will be posted via X @sallee_creates so check it out!

Take a look it’s a bit difficult to determine exactly what it is right now, but it’s there… Stay tuned for updates in the coming months!

Artwork – Movement

As more paintings come out of storage, let’s touch on Movement. We will be sharing acrylic and oil art form in the backlog.

Check out the motion series posted under artworks, which celebrates the concept of motion in various forms – whether in life, through sound, or in other worldly ways. The goal is to capture movement, light, emotion and action.

Below you will find a mix of mixed-media and acrylic works that study water elements, creatures, the night sky, and radio signals in motion.

Sunset Study

Artwork – Sun Study Series

Raise and shine! Or Another sun set, sun cascading over the rolling water, salt, and sand. Let’s start, there are a number pieces to this study, more paintings to the Sun Study, mix media pieces etc., currently unearthing those from storage. Here we have a series of light; sun/sun sets etc.

Light. These pieces focus on the light (oppose to dark) from a certain light source, the sun and how it falls on objects, land, or water. For now, the following sunset works will serve as a storage/archive for the series. Created in various sizes, using acrylics and different mediums, we delve into the exploration of the sun.

Now let’s focus on more content, additional content/art will be added later, so please check back at some point. I’m a fan of the light and colors created at dusk and dawn; just before and after the best light for photographs.

Lastly, take a look at my latest sketches, more sketches that further define the sun study and artwork on X and progression of photos. You can also explore our pieces and artwork in the artwork category.

Artwork – Mondrian Series

Mondrian, The Piet Study

First, a brief look into some work inspired by the Dutch Master Piet Mondrian (1872 – 1944). Check out the MoMA website for more information on Piet Mondrian to learn about him, his style, and the abstraction movement.

Secondly, these are the only pieces I could find, but there are others out there. In total, there are roughly 10 or more pieces like the “deconstructed” building pieces.

Next, the Piet Study series spans roughly 12 or more years, with artwork given as gifts to family members, for weddings and more. The third piece features more deconstructed rectangles on canvas, sticking to brown tones, reminiscent of terracotta. Unfortunately, these are the only two pieces I have in my possession.

Additionally, more on that later. I’ve got more like the first two labeled “square 1 and square 2” where the deconstructed Piet inspiration is more of a one off. Mondrian has many more like some of my favorites:

  1. Mill in the sunlight
  2.  Devotion
  3. The Red Mill
  4. Lighthouse in Westkapelle

For now, let’s us celebrate Mondrian and enjoy the artwork. Check out my latest sketches and artwork at @sallee_creates for progression photos. Lastly, you can also explore other pieces like the Piet Study, those can be found under the art tag or category for artwork.

More images will follow. We will include a hand study and a tree study over the year. The second image is an old oil painting, created before university, while studying the bust of Alexander the Great.

Lastly, a painting inspired by the famous “Girl With The Pearl Earring” by Dutch Master Johannes Vermeer ~1665. Although the famous pearl earring was hidden in this rendering, the study was an early ‘pointillism’ painting on watercolor paper. The final work was to represent the most famously painted by such names as Georges Seurat and Paul Signac ~1800. This study was very early on in my painting adventures, when the background was playing a major role in the final painting, instead of other similar colors to fill in the painting all together.

Aircraft Study

Artwork – Single Engine Aircraft, Acrylics

Love planes, aircraft of all shapes and sizes.

First, I have more sketches coming, one I’m working on now a Japanese Zero – A Mitsubishi A6M Zero fighter designed by Horikoshi Jiro raising to the highest levels of infamy, wreaking havoc in the Pacific Theater during World War 2. One of a few I remember studying a bit closer back in the day. The Zero, the Mustang, Warhawk and Messerschmitt Bf 109.  Many, or most of them are in pencil or have been elevated to pen and brush pen form.

Next, I am currently sketching up a few new ideas, including a large hauler. The largest helicopter in the fleet, the Chinook and an F/A-18 Super Hornet flown by the US Navy Blue Angels. Someday, I will get around to painting these aircraft, but for now, I only have the sketch version. Please check out the two examples on X, via @sallee_creates.
