I’ve been wanting to share this for awhile now, especially since version 5 has been out for some time. Borg2Borg v7 is now available and ready to use. It has been posted on the web. out and ready.

The sites mentioned above are intended for reference. Please treat those links as such; reference materials. The goal is to provide working templates for anyone to use and help others learn various coding languages, such as PHP.

Iterative Work in Progress

This is considered work in progress, code has been moved from our Git repository (moving away from Github). This code will live under the borg2borg domain for now. Please excuse the dust as some sites may require rework during the transition to the new space… However, we are transitioning away from Github. Therefore, website references like Borg2Borg v7 or reference materials will also be published on each specified domain. Additionally, we have started the conversion process, and all public/private/secret Ghists will be used as code references. Our goal is to assist people in learning code, such as Python, PHP, jQuery, JS, etc., for public consumption in the near term. We aim to meet and exceed our goals by providing code reference materials, coding examples, educating, and sharing language challenges and techniques with the masses. You will see coding examples presented in the following format or treated with Bootstrap HTML Treatment.

Here is a quick PHP print statement, utilizing the Bootstrap code treatment for the purposes of an example, the console will calculate and print the calculation to the browser.

Again, for probably 2 months now or so, we’ve converted all Github/Ghists to a companion file within the site folder. Next step will include a conversion to a database. At least that is the goal, assuming time is available.

Same for Django, this might be ‘jumping the shark’ as I want to get a working version of Django up on the ole’ web-server and see what we can do from there. I guess the overarching goal is to offer language/code reference material and Bootstrap examples. Local examples, jQuery – Astrononymous, BurmPy and 1Fyr.

So, lots of work out there, ton of things to do, clearly… not enough time in the world to work on side projects. We will get there one day at a time. Enjoy!

Isle Group was a short-term design and development opportunity. I ran an online study and marketing site for yearly, analysis to examine local traffic and out of town impact/opportunity. Although the business has transitioned to a  new business model/ownership, and expanded to new locations, the taco and  smokehouse/bbq space presents another opportunity to explore for the business.

I collaborated with the Isle Tap & Tacos leadership to pinpoint social and web opportunities areas for improvement, website updates, SEO/Domain Strategy, and ways to simplify the customer experience to attract new and existing foot traffic to each restaurant.

Artwork – Clockwork

Let’s cover artworks titled “Clockwork”… Made famous in the book A Clockwork Orange by english novelist Anthony Burgess. A grim dystopian look at a group of young hoodlums, hell bent on raising hell, in this dark world of ultra-violence made famous by Stanley Kubrick’s adaptation of the Burgess classic in 1975.

Clockwork is a mixed media creation that simulates an automaton’s interpretation of street art, taking on the task of being ‘creative’. It incorporates spray paint, markers, a paper pad, plaster, and board.

This hybrid interpretation of urban life is a mixed media series made of plaster and board. It focused on street art and uses various paint types including Krylon, Rust-Oleum and/or Dupli-Color aerosols. Check out the Clockwork series and others like it, which highlight various mediums, surfaces and mixed textures.

More to come, check back later just finished a few new designs, using Prismacolor acrylic markers. It’s been about 18 years since I last drew up ‘Clockwork’ as a tag or street name. More information will be necessary to fully understand this series around being “Together”. However, it is clear that this series serves as a celebration of family, whether they are blood relatives or individuals who hold a special place in your life, such as close friends.

The Symbolism

The series consists of two small pieces, white on black duotone acrylics, each measuring 5″ x 5″. As mentioned earlier “together” symbolizes the importance of family, whether biological or chosen. It is the love depicted in these paintings that truly brings them to life.

Customer Request and Focus on Family

First, let’s start with client preferences and requests for the website – ideally, an optimized, easy-to-use, user-friendly, photogenic, mobile-first design. The goal is to provide customers with an online experience that mirrors the quality of service they receive in person. Personal care and customer immersion are two key takeaways and factors to include in the design.

It’s worth noting the business was a father and son operation, that covered the Southern Shore of Connecticut, Hartford, New York and Pennsylvania. It was a small two-man operation focused on providing residential and commercial expertise and care. The main focus was on customer service experience, with the aim of making potential new customers and returning customers feel valued.

The client wanted his customers to see the care and experience the craftsmanship and level of service for themselves. The goal was to help customers envision themselves in their new or renovated spaces upon completion. This approach helped maintain loyal customers and emphasized long-term customer relationships, friendships, and partnerships. Additionally, sharing customer feedback and recommendations based on recent work completed added a personal touch to the business.

Residential and Commercial Clients

Secondly, the point here was to highlight professional level/portfolio level work both indoors and outdoors including residential and commercial spaces. RG Way Painting Contractor offers painting services, general contractor services as well as handyman services. All services are of extremely good workmanship and are local to the Southern Connecticut market. The most important aspect of this work example was a quick portfolio site for clients to experience the  RG Way experience. This includes sharing more about the planning-to-construction process, including clean up and payment. The goal is to provide ‘white-glove’ concierge level services, finding the right solution for your great investments

Communication and updates were also included in the scope for RG Way Painting Contractor. Customer feedback, recommendations and advocacy are a must, has this client had over 25 years experience and loyal customers willing to share their appreciation of completed work. It is always great to see such great services, professionalism and care for customer needs. Web studies include three examples, OHPASCO, Clapboard Video and Talented Yound. Find each example below, others not listed below Island House Tap and Casa Masa. 

First, starting with OHPASCO. A local small accounting business, based in Shaker Heights, Ohio. The client was looking to establish a marketing presence online targeting family, friends and tertiary contacts. The main goal was simple, expand Midwest and MidAtlantic online presence. Specifically in the Ohio, Pennsylvania, and New York. 

Furthermore, while there was an increasing need for dedicated resources, the popularity of shared hosting, cost and cloud based professional accounting services, the focus shifted towards implementing a marketing website to provide information and gather contacts, along with a practical hosting solution.

This work was a foundational study on mobile-first or device-agnostic design. A focus was placed on adding Bootstrap-lite features implemented in a  WordPress CMS environment. ‘Business on a page’ (infinite scroll) or a CMS to serve up marketing content. The goal was to provide monthly updates and a home for social media to drive traffic and encourage visitors to call or schedule an appointment to learn more.

Continuing on with the web studies, we have Clapboard Video, a local small business that specializes in digital wedding video and photography services. They offer full coverage of pre and post-wedding celebrations.

Talented Young

Next, we are excited to highlight Talented Young, a local startup that aims to showcase design portfolios in a Facebook-wall like format. They use cards to display individuals’ skills, talents and contact preferences, creating a virtual portfolio for creatives, architects and more. That’s Talented Young in a nutshell.

Our main focus has been on improving the designer experience, exploring possible communication channels, identifying favorites, and presenting internal offers. The design was created as a study for a large project, an academic proposal, or an online student portfolio offered by a franchisee (school) or private institution.

Also, the owner had great international exposure and was friendly and open to an iterative design and release strategy. Lastly, an early adoption of an agile and/or scrum based development and creative plans and holistic methodology, allowing build teams and design teams to focus on practical and pragmatic use of the system while developing the most important, shippable deliverables.

Local not-for-profit, swim academy focused on spreading the importance of swimming safety. The Klein Swim Academy proudly presents Sue Nami Swims.

Sue Nami Swims is a clever children’s book concept, marketing materials and website dedicated to water awareness. Follow along as Sue Nami learns important safety lessons in and around the pool, increases water awareness, and celebrates the fun we all have in the pool, bay, and ocean alike.

Visit the website, to learn about the nonprofit, and donate. The team focuses on swim safety, swimming basics, the importance of teaching basic, swim survival skills, and having fun around the pool! An excellent idea and a great book series on swim safety.

CILL – Continental Indoor Lacrosse League 2011-Present

First, the highly anticipated Continental Indoor Lacrosse League virtual presence exceeded expectations with it’s online league website. The website was created to compete with other CMS (see our other CMS examples) or CMS like products like Sports Engine and Team Unify (now a subsidiary of Sports Engine).

Next, the site provides live action play, game clips, in-game video, and league marketing for ownership/franchisees, media and league updates. The board aimed to deliver real-time content, (location based) information, real-time stats to attract fans to the Continental Indoor Lacrosse League. 

Secondly, The website also served as an archive, offering historical games, content, updates, and more for past events. This marked an important evolutionary step for the governing body and the organization as a leadership group. Introducing new franchise opportunities, teams, communication stability among league resources, management team, leadership, and inter-league play. The website was the primary source for all games, web broadcasts, and the intercontinental governing body for the league. It provided real-time player information for players, referees, and fans in both the US and Canada.

The owner, who is also the owner/operator of a family business, was looking to market the site differently. They wanted to clean up the website and enhance the database.

Further development included operating multiple parent and child sites concurrently driven by WPD, PHP, plugins and eCommerce solutions for online book sales. More details included Web • PHP(Backend) • DB • eCommerce/Shopping Cart. This was a crowning achievement for us at Sallee Technology. Additionally, we focused on building out the reference materials and shop experience, workshops, lectures and videos as mentioned earlier, making it all-encompassing.

Lefty Lacrosse – Training, Gear and Lacrosse Community from Ohio, Massachusetts; Vegas-to-Idaho and back.

A local business is bringing ‘merchandise’ and rasta gear to the market. The gear is combined with a message of leadership and love for the game, as well as a coordinated effort and a new teaching method focused on ambidextrous and left-handed game play, all integral parts of outdoor lacrosse game.

The brand quickly great due to early adoption of online content, selling gear online, and coaching. Additionally they shared gear (including t-shirts, socks and other rasta wearables), teaching methods, and game play with various skill levels in cities across d the county and beyond.

Overall, the new logos for the brand successfully captures the essence of the brand i.e. the double LL’s as a mirror reflection and provides a strong visual identity across various platforms. This includes texture, a complimentary color palette, background usage, weight/whitespace and balance. All great features to further cement the branding across the apparel line, website and marketing materials. First, following the release of their latest EP, Douglas And The Goodharts (DGH Soul) were seeking to implement a single-source design approach. DGH 2014 – Douglas And The Goodharts are “Delightfully Funky, Surprisingly Soulful” band. Regularly playing the Rockwood Music Hall – 196 Allen St. NYC. Music, videos, shorts and more can be found online via the web, Facebook, YouTube and more.

A new website enables the group to break free from the constraints of ‘social fencing’, and share dynamic content across all their social media platforms. Similarly, for band video content and print materials. This approach is what we call the ‘hub and spoke’ model, where a central hub, like the hub of a bicycle wheel, connects with various social platforms. Such as Facebook, Youtube, Soundcloud – online music storage and ticket sales. Ultimately, this allows the band to do more with less – less effort to distribute band materials and messages through the marketing and communication channel.

This omni channel offering would showcase in-show media, tour dates. Same for live show mix-media content, new music releases, music archive and more. Find more music local band support and design, visit us here.

(Links have been removed as they are no longer available). Work included figure heads, prominent CAL Berkeley students, faculty, administration and more. All working together to make UC Berkeley what it is today, provide student body with financial support via alumnus, and future classes to come.

In a quick overview, the client requested an animated short, web and flash media to showcase UC Berkeley’s excellence. Welcome the Class of 1969 to campus, and provide a simple way for graduates to donate. Overall, the project was a clean, sophisticated and fantastic client/creative experience, working with alumni and individuals who contribute to UC Berkeley’s ‘excellence’. One of my first few Flash projects prior ran as a separate entity. Similar to the Cal Berkeley Alumni Alumni site. Great opportunity and thankful to those who brought me into the know.

Larry I. Madorsky Law Practice (previously Beachwood Legal) 

Thanks to the Madorsky Law Practice (formerly known as Beachwood Legal at the time). A wonderful connection from a close friend of the business stretching back into the mid 2000’s. The client was looking for a ‘new’, practical approach to sharing practice information, preference on communication and testimonials. Client retention and repeat customers were favorable to the practice.

Value in Customer Recommendations and Testimonials

To begin, testimonials (both digital and hand written) were the cornerstone or main feature of the site. Early to adoption of online marketing, coupled with online testimonials and helpful content, helped boost the law practice’s online presence. From the customers perspective, value was in customer feedback in testimonial form. Honestly, and we heard it many times, testimonials having a positive and long-term loyal benefits.  Innumerable amounts of support from our perspective. A keen practice, for those customers who were new and/or in need of legal counsel. A great case of online ‘word of mouth’ economics. The content helped to  explain the services he and his team provided, and the sharing of testimonials helped turn cases and a profit for this practice.

The main goal was to broaden the practice’s online presence with a multi-domain strategy, add testimonials online and create a new marketing/communication channel for his clients. Takeaway, this was a highly successful implementation of the Domain Strategy designed as a ‘hub and spoke’ model – a custom domain strategy and marketing website to address SEO, Learn Analytics, while limiting expenses spent on ads/Adwords. A precursor to social media, using customer outreach to improve customer interaction.
