Check out the latest updates on the vinyl series, artwork, and lab work in progress over at X, @salleecreates.

It has been a few weeks since my last web post about artwork or work in progress. I have posted more of those work in progress or lab work on the x timeline. However, I will occasionally recap and share those items here on the website, highlighting new illustrations including medical, human form, animals, landscape, biologics, life energy, and more. This includes sketches, under paintings, illustrations, prep-work, 3D prints, 3D illustrations, 3D lines and more. So, check those out!

In this post, you can check out what’s currently in progress. I have shared several updates on the vinyl series, human forms, hero study, further exploration into the Mondrian Study, under paintings and more.

Keep track of what’s going on, what’s on the bench. You can follow along, have look over my other pieces, completed artwork, studies and mixed-media projects.

Back At It Again, The Power Switch Series is now underway, in Progress

It’s a start. The switch series has begun, and acrylics are now on canvas. It’s been awhile since I last used a paintbrush on canvas. Lately, I’ve been spending more time on the sketchpad. A year or two ago, I sketched out a few smaller ideas, before moving to stretched canvas around the office. Honestly, I’m not a huge fan of smaller pieces. My preference for canvas size is 24″ (rectangle) and above. So, we are sowing new growth. For more of my work, check out the following links – Movement, Sun Study, and more under the acrylics tag.

It’s a start. This will probably be a 5 to 6 part series on the same subject, in this case, an old light switch. Who knows, I may decide to scale up a number of sketches at some point, once the direction is set and the subject matter gets ironed out. The latest revisions and work will be posted via X @salleecreates so check it out!

Raise and shine! Or Another sun set, sun cascading over the rolling water, salt, and sand. Let’s start, there are a number pieces to this study, more paintings to the Sun Study, mix media pieces etc., currently unearthing those from storage. Here we have a series of light; sun/sun sets etc.

Light. These pieces focus on the light (oppose to dark) from a certain light source, the sun and how it falls on objects, land, or water. For now, the following sunset works will serve as a storage/archive for the series. Created in various sizes, using acrylics and different mediums, we delve into the exploration of the sun.

Inspired by Abstractionist, and Dutch Master

Mondrian, The Piet Study

First, a brief look into some work inspired by the Dutch Master Piet Mondrian (1872 – 1944). Check out the MoMA website for more information on Piet Mondrian to learn about him, his style, and the abstraction movement.

Secondly, these are the only pieces I could find, but there are others out there. In total, there are roughly 10 or more pieces like the “deconstructed” building pieces.

Next, the Piet Study series spans roughly 12 or more years, with artwork given as gifts to family members, for weddings and more. The third piece features more deconstructed rectangles on canvas, sticking to brown tones, reminiscent of terracotta. Unfortunately, these are the only two pieces I have in my possession.

Additionally, more on that later. I’ve got more like the first two labeled “square 1 and square 2” where the deconstructed Piet inspiration is more of a one off. Mondrian has many more like some of my favorites:

The main image won first prize back in college, highlighting various elements such as clouds, marketing, a human bust and the human skeletal structure. The second image is an old oil painting, created before university, while studying the bust of Alexander the Great.

Lastly, a human form painting inspired by the famous “Girl With The Pearl Earring” by Dutch Master Johannes Vermeer ~1665. Although the famous pearl earring was hidden in this rendering, the study was an early ‘pointillism’ painting on watercolor paper. The final work was to represent the most famously painted by such names as Georges Seurat and Paul Signac ~1800. This study was very early on in my painting adventures, human form creations, and movement same as those created today. These are great starts, some have become backgrounds, textures and more playing a major role in other paintings. See those and more under the category of artwork.

Love planes, aircraft of all shapes and sizes.

First, I have more sketches coming, one I’m working on now a Japanese Zero – A Mitsubishi A6M Zero fighter designed by Horikoshi Jiro raising to the highest levels of infamy, wreaking havoc in the Pacific Theater during World War 2. One of a few I remember studying a bit closer back in the day. The Zero, the Mustang, Warhawk and Messerschmitt Bf 109. Many, or most of them are in pencil or have been elevated to pen and brush pen form.

Next, I am currently sketching up a few new ideas, including a large hauler. The largest helicopter in the fleet, the Chinook and an F/A-18 Super Hornet flown by the US Navy Blue Angels. Someday, I will get around to painting these aircraft, but for now, I only have the sketch version. Please check out the two examples on X, via @salleecreates.

The style, at this point is my own, which has been consistent throughout my career, most recently in a study of pelicans you can find those paintings by searching Bird Study or click the link. Color is important here, makes for good acrylics (paintings, mixed media etc. and so on) including indoor, outdoor, subject matter – human, animals, creatures, energy, really anything.. For the context of this  post, color typically comes in the surreal flavor if you will, call it my self-expression or whatever, I rarely choose the real palette represented in a study or model. Again, not to be a rebel, maybe perhaps to give it a different ‘life’. To create something with “a life of it’s own or on it’s won”, I guess.

A Traveling Triptych – A Life’s Journey, Vagabond, to Scholar, and Under The Knife

Firstly, the Traveling Triptych series is an exploration of color, human form, emotion, and the essence of being human; this series is called the Traveling Triptych. Painted back in the early 2000s, the works won multiple first awards, traveled coast-to-coast and remains in my private collection. Secondly, there are three distinct real reasons for each painting: 1. A vagabonds life, roaming around, living as is, looking for meaning in this life. 2. Thinking, settled now, trying to make sense of this world, striving to perfection, reflecting on life. 3. Moreover, under the knife, aging not so well these days, but needing to correct organics and better ones’ life, now sharing life’s blessing.

Thirdly, this piece or series was completed in the early 2000s as part of my undergraduate studies, particularly focusing on color theory. Likewise, I wanted to create something a bit more deconstructed, incognito and lacking form straightaway. The Traveling Triptych series includes 5 or more pictures or forms. The themes include the vagabond or nomad, the uncut, the unkept. Therefore, the one who thinks, lost in thought; pondering how things are.

Subsequently, we have a hand searching for sight, or perhaps defending sight from thought. All open to interpretation, surreal in nature. A quick tangent, check out more human elements, forms etc. via form study.  One of my favorite pieces individually and together, in the 3 part series. There are more, locked away in a sketchbook from the early 2000’s.

Crazy to think about it, more than 25 years ago, anyway. Lastly, more to come, more paintings in this style – surrealist style i.e. Dali, Parkes, and Elmore. HamRadioExam – Technicians License. For those of you seeking Ham Radio study guides, licensing questions, study help, etc. look no further. Give Roy W.’s app HamRadioExam or HRCC Ham Study a try.

Although time seems to fly by, it is important to find time to study, take the test, and pass this exam. Like most secondary actions or things you might ‘want’ to do, do not continue to put off the testing… Try the Ham Radio Exam App – Technician’s License for yourself. With a swipe of a finger, you can test your knowledge, take practice tests and practice quizzes on the side. Clash of Clans, Conflict of Nations WW3 aside… most of our time has been spent practicing for this exam. Overkill? Maybe, but like many certifications, and  licenses there are times when you just need to know the basics. In this case, Ham Radio operators have to take greater responsibility with their hobby, so to speak. Why? The FCC fines…

Let us begin by considering ARRL membership, which is not necessary, but it’s worth checking out before you delve into the  FCC licensing. Continuing with your testing is worthwhile, as it may take days, weeks, or even a few months to fully grasp the knowledge needed to pass your exam through HamRadioExam – Technician License now. Just took a peak at the local exam schedule provided by (https://www.arrl.org/find-an-amateur-radio-license-exam-session)ARRL (Amateur Radio Association) for our own testing time. More importantly, if you have not started the process yet, being here on the ARRL site, learn why you should obtain your Ham Radio License.

Highlighting various bird species through acrylics and photography. Below are a couple of shots of herons in and around the lake taken via drone – DJI Phantom 4 ProV2. In the future, I will release a number of sketches, additional photos, and illustrations that will be available in print through Amazon eBooks and Print. Exciting things are on the horizon as we move into the latter part of 2024.

Birds, specifically ‘shore’ birds are one of my favorite species to cover. Herons, Storks, look (mostly) Jurassic or what I imagine life being like in those times. That said, I had followed a few Blue Heron (Ardea Herodias) and one, maybe more than one Shoebill Stork (Baleniceps rex) in and around the Florida waterways.

Now, there is a bit of a symbiotic relation to a family of ducks near by. Unfortunately, for the ducks at times, I noticed the herons’ (predators) came around duck seasonal migrations. There were enough small fish, turtle and such to sustain a Blue Heron or two, Osprey and Shoebill Stork. In that same vain, the birds took full advantage of a specific food source, duck eggs and ducklings in around the same waterways I was fishing. As you can imagine, the predators were looking for a vulnerable, nutrient-rich food source. I digress, the point, I had the opportunity to study, watch and learn large, solitary birds do what they do.

Choose HRCC – Ham Study, let’s get started! I wanted to tee up another mini-series or online study tool. In this case, we will focus on the Crash Course, – a study tool/series for those interested in learning about ham radios, their operation, and the fundamentals needed to obtain a ham license.

Ever wanted to give HAM radios a try? Now is the time to try, both the crash course and a friend will help.

From an outsider’s perspective, this seems like the way to go. I have never used a ham radio before, and I don’t have anyone to guide me through the process. I believe this is a good starting point, a launching pad into the world of ham radio. Once again, we are recommending this HRCC – Ham Study, specifically the  HRCC – Ham Radio Crash Course is the best option, give it a try. Changing seasons, progression of time. A Tree study.

We watch as branches sway back and forth in the breeze, a snowy winter is coming . Snow covers their barren branches, with no leaves for what seems like months. Out of the window,  we see the sun, and we follow this specimen through time a passage of time, as seasons change.

Watch as the seasons change, growth after a tremendously long winter pause, makes for a nice tree study – a full progression (6 part series) of this particular area outside the house. Actually, this tree sits just outside the window, within arms reach. There were times, if a storm whipped up enough of a gust, the branches would scrap and the window. No damage just bone chilling noise to encounter during a heightened time or situation during a winter storm. New life emerges in the spring, followed by a spring trim. In the warm glow of late day, branches stretch, and bounce, pushing out their bark and leaves for more sun light.

While cleaning up some old files, we stumbled upon our AppleTV receipt for the StarWars Boxset (9 Movie Set) on Apple Movies – Star Wars 9 Movie Collection. This prompted the need to repost. There are other box sets available, but I wanted to quickly touch on this one. Get Some More Dali…

Dali, Salvador Dali, the Spanish Surrealist painter and printmaker, more infamously known for his surreal expressions and fanciful illusions. I must admit that I am a fan of this work. While I wouldn’t say I’m fanatical, I am intrigued by this works. His work breaks the boundaries of reality and delves into a surreal world that is uniquely Salvador Dali. While studying Art History in college, I delved deeper into Dali’s works as I explored my own surrealist illusions and study of colors. I  purchased  a few table-top books of his works and some small print books for reference. My influence comes more from the internet than from archival hardbound books. The surreal, dream-like, and fanciful elements in my own work are a direct reflection of Dali’s influence. He truly is a brain teaser. In addition to Dali, other artists like Parkes (modern surrealist; fantasy); even Larry Elmore have influenced my work as well. They are all incredibly skilled with an eye for detail and light. If you have the chance, I recommend taking a look at some of Dali’s work online. Check out pieces like  “The Anthropomorphic Cabinet” (Anthropomorphic – Dali) from 1936. More information will be necessary to fully understand this series around being “Together”. However, it is clear that this series serves as a celebration of family, whether they are blood relatives or individuals who hold a special place in your life, such as close friends.

The Symbolism

The series consists of two small pieces, white on black duotone acrylics, each measuring 5″ x 5″. As mentioned earlier “together” symbolizes the importance of family, whether biological or chosen. It is the love depicted in these paintings that truly brings them to life.
