Tech And Tools – FUZZ

What’s that sound? It’s the URLFuzzer.

As always, we continue our testing efforts testing apps, websites and consoles We begin with The URLFuzzer, GTMetrix, JMeter, LoadRunner, Selenium, validation tools, and Google Admin Console. Testing is currently in progress. As you read this (or when I wrote this post, and hopefully when you read it), testing is ongoing. We hope it’s within the same year (or at least not to far off).

Furthermore, it’s important to ensure that solutions protect our online investments. Pentest and vulnerability scanning tools could be the key to achieving this goal. For storytelling purposes, two test are currently running: one for Pentest-Tools and the other from Scantrics.io. It’s been a few minutes, and so far, there haven’t been any results. This may or may not be a good sign or an indicator of the final outcome.  Let’s also cover Selenium, LoadRunner, JMeter, QTP, HTML/JS, PHP Validators, Guru99 and a few others… but let’s start here.

Keep in mind that the tools mentioned are free, so consider this when reviewing the compiled and reported results form the services provider. Free tools may not always provide the complete pictures (meaning you have to pay the premium prior for the full picture), so take them with a grain of salt. It’s advisable  to use multiple tools or consider paying for premium services. Testing with a variety of tools, both free and premium, is essential. How about other tools and code snippets we use to help others? Do you fuzz? Screaming Frog or SEMRush? Email issues? MX Toolbox, flush your system and server cache often. Delete old accounts, clean up the clutter and fix email risks and issues associated with email services.

So, the question arises, when trying something new, what is the best product for a wide range of steel product for a wide range of steel, what is the cost, and what is the warranty? The possibilities are endless. What do you suggest? We are open to your feedback. What are your thoughts?

Before you go, since we are on the topic of tools and needs, here are some other links to tools that you might need – Light Tools, Calipers, hand tools,  Weller 70w Soldering Kit, Telescoping Picker, and Kreg Tool. Let’s check ’em out!

The Ask: Can we weld both MIG TIG and power complimentary plasma cutter tools or additional add-ons? (Miter Saw review coming soon). Which is easier to use, stick welding or auto feed welders? We need all the information! We are considering starting a new series on welding, miter saws, and power supplies, focusing on more challenging jobs and scaling up from electronics to heavy stock steel possibly in the third quarter of ’22. UST Blast Match

Who needs matches or a lighter, when you got a UST BLASTMATCH

Tech And Tools – Camp Gadgets

EDC Camping Accessories – (UST) Ultimate Survival Technologies BlastMatch Fire Starter – Take a look and choose your favorite; we certainly recommend the – UST BLASTMATCH.

Need a last-minute gift idea? We have used the BlastMatch from time to time, even while sharing a beverage around the campfire. Although campfires have been on hold during a winter hiatus, these blast matches are fantastic to have on hand for emergencies or leisurely use. There are plenty of videos and product reviews, available, so we won’t bore you with another product plug, but we strongly encourage you to have one handy. There’s nothing like promoting a product that actually works.

Optional Carry

  • BlastMatch
  • Lighter
  • Matches
  • Battery and Wire steel pad
  • Knife and Ferro Rod
  • Homemade Emergency Matches – waterproofing material such as a balloon, cotton balls, Vaseline
  • Starter Nests – manufactured ball of wood strips (nested) with common accelerant
  • Start Logs

Get your EDC – UST BlastMatch today. Take your time with the device; the rod may shift side-to-side when striking the intended surface, causing a shower of sparks. Sticks with it as it is certainly more practical than a fire bow or an empty lighter. For the records, we always carry a few Bic lighters in various pockets of our camping pack and clothing. Typically, there is a lighter on my person as part of my everyday carry. Some people carry a lighter, cotton balls, an EDC knife, or a camp knife. The key is to be prepared if you are building a campfire, camping, trekking, on-the-trail, or stuck in a situation where you might need a light. Good luck.

Oracle VBox – Virtual Appliances

VM’s (Virtual Machines), Easily Choose Another OS

Oracle Virtual box

Virtual Appliances, V Images, VDI’s, ISO’s

Tech And Tools – Virtual Appliances

Virtual Box Oracle VBox – Virtual Appliance(s), get it now… assuming you have had a similar situation where a different system for testing is useful. More so than the one you are using, are stuck with, or are having trouble running native apps.

Oracle Virtual Box – (https://www.virtualbox.org) is a great starting point. Be sure to explore the latest and best virtualized products. Ideally, it’s a useful ‘virtual’ appliance to have on hand in the shop, to run VDI’s – Virtual Desktop Infrastructure or ISO – Copy (of the) Optical Disc Image. I came across an article about this previously, as I have written about it before, while testing other OS, OS Variants, Solutions, Drone Flight sims, Flight Configs, etc.

A note of caution, trust me, the Virtual Box tool is very useful of testing almost any compute/browser combinations. In our case, we prefer the Oracle product for non Windows needs, while Boot Camp works well for  Windows environments pretty well. We will cover those another time, but for now check out this handy post to paste into your browser… Your choice – BSD, Fedora, Linux Varietals and more. Find alternatives, other image offerings: OS Boxes Linux Images – https://www.linuxvmimages.com.

Virtual Environments – VBOX or Parallels for MAC

REMEMBER TO DO YOUR HOMEWORK. Especially if you’ve made a very large investment into your craft or machine. Say for example, for a Puget Systems or MacOS MacBook Pro computer. Check what’s there. It may take many, (many, many tries) to get this stuff to work in an optimal fashion, but you’ll get it soon enough. Testing is key. Donate where you can!

A few other notes, I’m sure you have your own process, but we use Virtual Box for lots of stuff*… testing, games, browser ‘wars’, IoT stuff* and more*. Below you will find a few screenshots of Virtual Box and MS Remote Desktop. The goal was to cover as many systems, device varieties, OS images and tools as possible Always remember, just have fun.

Good time to highlight premade, premier machines. Before we wrap up, take a look at Puget Systems, these machines are top of the line, premier computers, bar none; this one setup for Adobe software.

One last point, these virtual environments can be used for IoT testing. Note, that since the screenshots were taken/shared, we’ve added Virtual Box to MacOS, running a litany of ISOs. Those can be found here, included for your convenience! We certainly enjoy using this method for just about anything. Please see the posting on Debian Buster starting with the Ubuntu IoT ISOs.

Tool Needs And Nice To Haves

Measure Precisely, Calipers

Neiko Calipers

Tool Needs – Neiko and Mitutoyo Calipers

Tech And Tools – Calipers

Archive – Tool Needs, the Neiko or the Mitutoyo Calipers

A handy gadget to have in and around the shop is a set of calipers. Make Neiko brand calipers your go to for precision measurements. If you already have a set of calipers and looking to replace current stainless calipers, consider the Mitutoyo Digimatic Caliper.

Regardless of which maker or brand you might choose, both are useful to have around the shop. We use one set for ‘more rugged’ measurements, such as automotive, outdoor or in not-so-clean environment. The other set stays indoors, ideally in a clean environment free of debris and contaminants. The main difference, in my opinion, is the metal-to-plastic ratio. I find it more accurate to use metal parts (Mitutoyo) compared to the metal and plastic hybrid (Neiko). Both function as mid-range calipers and are not terribly expensive. However, they are necessary for taking accurate measurements.

Check out  these tools for yourself and see which one fits your needs best. Let us know what you find!

Question to all: Do you have a better caliper? Please let me know by sharing via email. I would also appreciate the use of comments for back-and-forth communication, especially when looking for a specific part, such as the calipers mentioned in the article or something else. Luthier Gauges - Stew Mac

Stew Mac Gauges

Tech And Tools – Luthier Tools

Luthier Tools; Gauges

Someday, I’ll learn I’m not much of a luthier, but I do build, tinker and repair my own. I recently completed my first DIY build, using a premade body and genuine guitar parts – EMG Telecaster Pickup Set, Fender Telecaster neck and Wilkinson tuners. Now, I’m venturing into higher quality builds, like an American Telecaster body with full US-made parts for an American Parts Telecaster. As I work on these projects, I realize that I’ll need some gauges. These luthier gauges seem like they could be useful to have around. They are definitely worth the investment if you’re working on installing new quality tuners or building a fresh guitar.

If you’re in need of quality DIY guitar parts, I recommend checking out eBay, Stewmac, or Amazon a peek. They offer a variety of wood selections, premiere quality, American-made stock necks, and more. With the right tools and skills, you can fully fabricate, build and play a new guitar in just a few days (minus sanding and glue time). It’s a wild concept, but it’s possible.

Speaking of gauges, this handy gauge set can help you adjust the action on both acoustic and electric guitars. Ultimately, the string height will determine the pressure needed to play a note or chord. This gauge set is a great option for DIY builds, parts builds or working on premade guitar stock from the Stewmac shop. While you’re shopping, be sure to check out what’s called a guitar capo or capotasto, for quick and easy scale changes. A nice-to-have, this hand tool or accessory is a great addition to your learning arsenal, allowing you to alter your guitar’s scale in seconds and enhance your guitar skills.

Heart Roasters – Bodum French Press, raise the coffee warning.

COFFEE WARNING…running low, DANGEROUSLY LOW on coffee! Those of you who know what I’m talking about, get ready! Let’s chat about coffee, more specifically Heart Roasters’ blend coffee. I love this stuff from Heart Roasters. For those of you in the South Florida area, #PerqSRQ stop in there and satisfy your coffee creating with #HeartRoasters coffee. They offer a variety of local snacks, breakfast rolls, and drinks to go with your breakfast.

Before we get to far into the coffee beans, are you looking for the tech side of coffee? See our coffee links. Learn how to descale your favorite coffee machines with a little vinegar. Or fix your handheld nano mixer and frothers. And, let’s highlight our favorite camp percolator, used anywhere, for you outdoors people, and experienced campers.

Next, I have to brag about Heart Roasters coffee for a moment – the Ethiopia Worka Sakaro is my favorite. COFFEE WARNING! It’s also my preferred blend to run through the French press. I use the Bodum French Press, which is nothing to fancy, but it works well and brews great small batches.

As a continuation, my go to is the Ethiopian variety, which in my opinion, is the best I can get my hands on, week over week or when in a bind. It’s consistency, flavor, and roast are just right on a day-to-day basis. The Worka Sakaro brews well in the Bodum Chambord French press… as I want to reiterate. You can pick up a “Frenchie P” for around $40.

Don’t skip this COFFEE WARNING, get coffee now. Make your morning coffee a bit more pleasurable with @Heart, Cheers.

FrSky Taranis Q Series Transmitters

FRSky Taranis Q On The Bench

Taranis QX7S

Tech And Tools – FrSky Taranis QX7S

Take Flight, Take Control. FrSky Taranis QX7S

First, I picked up the FrSky Taranis Q series transmitter after spending some time at the @GetFPV shop in Sarasota, Fl. I always appreciate the help from the good people there and the endless options for drone hobbyist and enthusiasts. After a few clicks, a few questions, and some tinkering around. I added the @FrSkyRC Taranis Q X7S + Hall Sensor Gimbals to my drone arsenal.

Secondly, after dropping the remote (bummer). I added a new switch pretty easily by buying a switch removal/replacement kit. I also purchased a few extra Ni-MH remote batteries for this particular model. The remote comes with a battery and Ni-MH charger and the QX7S specifically has a charging port on board. This allows access to the battery through the remote or transmitter housing without having to remove the battery.

By avoiding accidents and not needing to remove the battery pack to charge it, I can keep the battery protected at all times. This is really handy and reduces the risk of accidents occurring between charges.  It was a bummer to have to fix the switch, but it was good to get under the ‘hood’ and take care of it. If you need to tighten or loosen the gimbal pressure clips, you might want to do that while the cover is off.

Finally, our goal is to achieve price, serviceability, and scalability for 1-to-many, fixed wing and hybrid drones, including the – FV-31 Cypher micro quads from EMAX. There may also be other options such as Diatone Cinewhoop, tiny whoops or quadcopters that you can bind to this remote. With the success of our goal, the FRSky Taranis Q has been repaired, and now it’s time to fly. Although it’s been months since we posted anything related to the Taranis Q RC transmitters… Let’s check out the latest Drone Updates – Taranis Q Camo, Drone accessories and more Also, if you’re interested in more EMAX lab work this two part EMAX Series – Part 1 and Part 2 is a great place to start.
